Old vs. New – Comparing the New Qashqai:

The new Nissan Qashqai is hot on the heals of its successors accolades. The first Qashqai was successful enough to make it into the list of the top ten best-selling cars of 2010 (Nissan’s first entry in the list since 1983′s Nissan Sunny). Just how well does the new Qashaai measure up to its predecessor?

Just how does the new Qashqai measure up?

In terms of price, the new Qashqai has models ranging from the low end of £17,595 up to a peak of £27,854, with our hire prices ranging from £249 to £349. The 2014 Qashqai boasts a wide range of ‘soft’ features to add convenience to your driving experience: park assist technology, an around view monitor and external reversing camera (with their washers and jets for cleaning) are some of the most useful additions.

The New Qashqai’s Environmental Performance:

Environmental sustainability is a frequently raised issue in the current climate and the affects this has had on the latest Qashqai model are easy to see when you start looking at the numbers. All the new Qashqai variants are using new engines that see the whole line’s carbon emissions cut across the board, with comparative reductions of at least 30(g/km)² on new models over the old. At their very lowest, the 1.5 dCi model features emissions of only 99(g/km)² – which is low enough for the car to qualify for no-cost road tax.

The new Qashqai body is also a redesign, with a sleeker, longer design – though also with admittedly less flexibility. Where the previous model was available in both five- and seven-door models, the new Qashqai comes in a single five-door, five-seat hatchback body-style. This does allow it to feature a whole host of new technology across the whole range, including: front collision avoidance, driver attention support, traffic sign recognition and all of the above mentioned technologies.

The engines in the 2014 Qashqai are available in both petrol and diesel. Petrol options are available in both 1.2- and 1.6-litre variants for an average of 50.4mpg, compared to the 41.65mpg of the previous model. The diesel 1.5- and 1.6-litre engines broach an average of 74.3mpg, which is a grand improvement over the 53.6mpg average of its predecessor.
